CLASSES & EVENTS

General Information

The Limited Commercial Maintenance certification is available only for landscape maintenance contractors applying pesticides to their customers property. This license is sometimes incorrectly called the Roundup license.  In fact this license can be used for much more than the herbicide Roundup.  Products are limited to  "Caution" labels only, not "Warning" or "Danger" labels.  Applications are limited to beds and shrubs, not turf. Application equipment is limited to  backpacks and handheld pump-up sprayers, not powered equipment.  This certification no longer requires documentation of 3 years experience in Landscape Maintenance .  Each applicator must be licensed and may not supervise other applicators.  Six hours of training, an application, and proof of insurance is required.

This certification requires a passing grade (75%) on the exam. This certification  must be renewed annually either by testing or with 4 CEU's.

IRRIGATION SCHOOL

Rick Lusher, Director of the Florida Automated Weather Network (FAWN), has requested our help in getting the word out about its upcoming irrigation school.  Through funding from the District’s seven Basin Boards, FAWN will host an irrigation school on May 13th from 9 am until 1 pm at the Hillsborough Extension Service, with lunch included.  Topics covered will include urban water use, estimating evapotranspiration (ET) rates and how ET affects plant water supply, using ET-based irrigation controllers, using the FAWN Urban Irrigation Scheduler, agricultural irrigation, and citrus irrigation scheduling.  A press release about the event is attached.  Please pass this information along to anyone you think may benefit from this seminar. The Hillsborough Extension Service is located at 5339 County Road 579 Seffner, FL,

33584. To register, contact Rick Lusher at 352-392-0429, or rlusher@ufl.edu. – Lou.
